A violent attack occurred at Mutunan gold mining camp in Timu Sub County, Ik constituency in Kaabong District, on August 6, 2025, resulting in the death of one person and injuring another.
Initial information reveals that, unknown suspected Dodoth armed warriors attacked the mining camp at around 8:00 PM, shooting dead Looru Lokonyang, a 40-year-old man from Lokali Village, Nariamawoi Parish, Kathile South Sub County. Another individual, Ebenyo Longoli, a 25-year-old man from Lokanayona Parish, Loyoro Sub County, was shot and survived with injuries in the right upper arm and shoulder.
The injured person is currently receiving treatment at Timu Health Center II.
One suspect, identified as Lowale Lotudorot, has been arrested and detained to assist with the ongoing investigations.
The deceased body has been taken to Kaabong general Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Karamoja police spokesperson, IP Mike Longole says authorities are working to determine the motives behind the attack and bring the perpetrators to justice. The safety and security of the mining camp and surrounding communities are of utmost importance, and measures are being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
