The Uganda Peoples’ Defense Forces (UPDF) kicked off national recruitment exercise in the Karamoja Sub region despite some terrain challenges including bad roads occasioned by heavy rains that hit and affected sections of key security roads.
The rains affected traditional main roads like Moroto- Kalisarik- Kotido where loaded cargo trucks blocked passage for the whole day rendering it impassable. Other alternative security roads such as Sinyu-Kobebe-Kotein and Loyoro-Lopedo- Kaabong became much slippery.
UPDF ,3rd Division Spokesperson,Maj.Isaac Oware says despite the challenges, team seven led by Colonel Santurino Mashereka Tumuranzye managed to maneuver and kept on course to achieve its task to recruit applicants from Kaabong and Karenga districts at Kaabong district headquarters.
” I commend the team and district leaders for this positive effort and gesture so far,” Said Col Tumuranzye.
Tumuranzye thanked the district leaders for ably mobilizing the shortlisted candidates in time and continued cooperation.
In Kaabong district Eleven out of the fourteen shortlisted candidates were recruited while six were recruited out of eight shortlisted candidates passed the interviews.
Kaabong Resident District Commissioner (RDC) , Stephen Odong Latek urged the successful candidates to maintain the spirit of brotherhood, remain patriotic and disciplined during and after training. He emphasized that the district leadership will undertake due diligence to follow up candidates’ conduct and character to ensure that whatever they do is in compliance with what the service requires them.
Odong advised the successful candidates to make early travel arrangements in time to avoid being disqualified due to late reporting at the training school.
Unlike before, this year the successful candidates shall transport and report themselves to the Kaweweta Basic Military Training school-Kaweweta, Ngoma sub county in Nakaseke district.
The team will conduct similar exercise for shortlisted applicants from the districts of Abim on 8th at Kotido district headquarters, Moroto and Napak on 9th, at Moroto district headquarters Nakapiripirit ,Nabilatuk and Amudat will be on 10th at Nakapiripirit district headquarters. The applicants are urged to turn up in time and with their original required documents.
