Joint Security Forces of UPDF and Police in Karamoja sub region have recovered one illegal firearm in Kotido District as part of intensified operations targeting armed criminal elements.
According to Karamoja police spokesperson Mike Longole, the gun was recovered on Thursday, 18 June 2026 at approximately 1100hrs.
It was SMG, Serial No. H5826, with 02 rounds of ammunition.
The gun was recovered from a notorious wanted warrior identified as Loware Acholiba aged 32 , a resident of Kanalobae Village, Kanalobae Parish, Maaru Sub-County, Kotido District.
This follows intensified operations in Maaru and Kotido sub-counties in the ongoing security crackdown on criminals.
Longole says the suspect surrendered the weapon through Fr. Gabriel Angella, Catholic Priest of Kanawat Parish and the firearm was officially handed over to a security team led by Kotido Resident District Commissioner, Chalres Ichogor .
The suspect, along with others still at large, are alleged to have been h terrorizing Lokitelaebu Town Council, Maaru, Kamor, and Kotido sub-counties, Kaabong ,Agago ,Abim ,Kitgum and Karenga districts where they have been conducting armed robberies, commercialized cattle raids and illegal wildlife poaching.
Security forces say Disarmament operations is on to track down remaining members of the criminal syndicate.
The suspect was released under the ongoing Presidential amnesty.
Joint Security Forces called upon residents to take advantage of the Presidential amnesty and voluntarily surrender illegal firearms through local leaders, clergy, or security personnel and Anyone with information on armed elements should report immediately to the nearest security detach, or local leader because community cooperation remains critical to restoring peace and protecting lives and livestock.
Since the beginning of Usalama Kwa wote in 2021 ,1,445 guns have been recovered.
